About Us

The Institute of Mental Health is a 600 bedded teaching hospital established was earlier Government of Andhra Pradesh and now it is under Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, (KNR Health University) Warangal, Govt. of Telangana. The Hospital provides patient care in fields of Mental Health. The hospital services offered by Institute of Mental Health include outpatient, Inpatient, Emergency, Acute psychiatric care, De-addiction, Psychological counseling, Laboratory, Radiological services. The Institute provides community based out reach services Shankarpally in Medak District of Telangna and also Mental Health clinics are conducted in various homes for aged and disabled run by Government of Telangana and Non Governmental Organizations.

The Institute is actively involved in activities like Postgraduate Training in MD Psychiatry and Diploma in Psychological Medicine courses. The Institute is involved in many research and development projects in collaboration with agencies like WHO & ICMR on important topics like psychiatric rehabilitation of Tsunami affected population. The hospital also conducted clinical research projects in collaboration with public and private organizations.

The Institute is shifted to present premises from Jalna of Maharashtra in the year of 1953. The main objectives of the Institute are:

  • Care of those patients who are mentally ill on outpatient, inpatient and emergency basis.
  • Teaching and training of medical and paramedical personnel in basic and advanced mental health care.

  • Research on mental health care – preventive, curative and promotive.
  • Community Participation in dissemination of knowledge about prevention and cure of psychiatric problems and in establishing community outreach programmes like conduction of mental health camps and establishment of community health centers
