Outpatient Services
They are provided in outpatient block in which psychiatrist, clinical Psychologist, Psychological nursing care professionals, Laboratory technicians, radiographers and medico social workers extend their services. The registration for new out patient services starts at 8.30 A.M and is closed at 10.30 A.M. Review of old outpatients is from 9.00 A.M to 2.00 P.M. A table is given on the last page showing the details of the services offered along with the timings and days. Multi disciplinary approach for patients with drug abuse, alcoholism, tobacco addiction is available in De-addiction ward. On an average 60 new outpatients and 280 -300 old patients visit the hospital. OPD has facility for Biochemical, Radiological and ECG tests. OPD houses pharmacy where all the patients get essential medicines free of cost.
Emergency Services
The Institute provides round the clock emergency services for Psychiatric Emergencies. The Patients in emergency are attended by qualified Psychiatrists.if required, the patient is kept in emergency room under observation and later shifted to wards after admission. On an average 20 patients attend the emergency facility every day.
Inpatient Services
The Institute is 600 bedded hospital. Patients who need hospitalization for management of their psychiatric problems are admitted. There are separate wards for Males and Females.
Patients brought on court reception order are kept in separate closed male and female wards. Patients from jails are kept in criminal (forensic) ward.
Family members are encouraged to stay along with the patients in the open wards to promote participation of family members on the care of patients with psychiatric problems and their early recovery like in any other general hospital.
Deaddiction ward with 10 beds is available where treatment for drug abuse. Alcoholism, nicotine and ganja addiction is given. The wards has facility for group therapy, yoga and other recreational facilities.
All the patients are given diet and drugs free of cost. Mechanized laundry and Modern kitchen are established in the hospital for supply of clean bed linen and balanced diet to patients.
There are plenty of Recreational facilities which include television, library and FM Radio receivers and out door games.
Community Out Reach Services
In addition to Hospital based services, the hospital provides community out reach services inShankarpallyMedak District of TelanganaThe services rendered as part of community outreach programmes include out patient care, referral to Institute of Mental Health for inpatient care, Community awareness programmes and training of health care professionals like medical officers and other paramedical staff of primary health centers.
Also provides services to male and female prison inmates in chanchalguda.
The Institute also caters to mental health needs of old and disabled people by conducting out reach programmes in various homes and rehabilitation centers run by Government and NGOs.
The Laboratory Facilities
Biochemical and Radiological investigations are available in the Hospital.
Electro Convulsive Therapy
Modified ECT treatment facility by qualified medical professionals with modern equipment and recovery room facility is available in the hospital which helps in early recovery of patients with psychiatric problems.
Occupational Therapy Services
Department of occupational therapy provides training in the activities of daily living for recovering patients from psychiatric problem. Training is given in candle making, carpentrary, weaving, welding , tailoring , Gardening, envelop making, manual and spray painting.
Service Charges
No service charges collected from patients of institute.
Collaboration With Other Institutions For The Care Of Mentally Ill.
Collaboration is made with the Government agencies like Judiciary, State Legal Services Authority, Human Rights Forum, Department of Social Welfare to facilitate rehabilitation of people with psychiatric problems and encouraging Non-Governmental Organizations to participate in the Endeavour.
Teaching Activities
The hospital provides training for MBBS students of Osmania Medical College, Diploma in Nursing and midwifery.
The hospital is a Postgraduate training institute for MD Psychiatry and Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM) students. The Institute also organizes short term training programmes for General Practitioners and Para Medical Professionals in the field of Mental Health.
Research Activities
The Institute undertakes research in all priorities areas in the field of mental health. It has conducted useful research in fields like mental health aspects of disaster, efficacy of various drugs, Community based service delivery, suicides, urban mental health etc. Different research projects are initiated either individually or in collaboration with WHO, ICMR, Ministry of Social Welfare and Empowerment etc,.
Services Rendered To Homeless And Helpless
- The institute provides treatment facilities to homeless people through its community outreach clinic in Shivananda Rehabilitation Center and home for the aged, Bansilalpet; State Home, Yousufguda; Missionaries of Charity, Secunderabad and other homes
- The Institute provides treatment facilities to those Psychiatric patients, who left their homes due to their psychiatric problems and are brought to the institute by police or NGO through judiciary. After recovery these patients are sent to their homes or to shelters managed by Government of Andhra Pradesh.
